Gaultheria shallon 'Cascade Sunrise' (syn. 'Gaulsidh12') PPAF, CPBRAF , Salal

An evergreen, shrubby ground cover with bright to dark green shiny rounded leaves.  'Cascade Sunrise' has captivating new spring foliage in shades of orange and red with white, urn-shaped flower clusters; followed in summer by blue-black fruit which the birds will thank you for providing them with as a food source. The glossy, thick leaves and fuzzy stems are also popular in flower arrangments.

Salal can be thicket-forming in amenable conditions--the stems will recline and root as the plant spreads, therefore, give it lots of room or plan ways to keep it in check. This easy-care, stalwart, Pacific NW native should not be overlooked for shady or part-shady areas of your garden. It can also thrive in full sun if given summer water.

Mature size: 2-3 ft tall.

Minimum temperature: -10° F
